Every year at Setting Sail, First Year students receive reading material that is meant to help them transition to the social and intellectual life of the university academic life.  In August, when students move into the residence halls, faculty lead discussions on the common reading.  The reading ranges from a book to several short articles and is read during the summer.  Reading selections are based on the First Year Seminar theme for that year and the Liberal Learning Council makes the final selection.  The theme for this year’s reading is Exploration and Discovery and the selected common reading is Three Cups of Tea by Greg Mortenson.  The library website has information about the book.
